Low Temperature (LT) microbes are engineered to work effectively when most microbes won't, at temperatures below 15°C/60°F. Most microbial products lose about 50% of their activity for every 10°C drop in temperature, which means that there is very limited activity in water during colder winter months. Although most products claim to be active at these lower temperatures, they are in fact functioning very poorly. The strains in LT show high biological activity (90%) at 4°C/39°F and will prevent sludge containing nitrogen and phosphorus from building up during the winter months.
LT microbes will enhance removal of BOD, COD, TSS and sludge in wastewater and should be used when water temperatures drop to 15°C/60°F and below. Using LT will keep your wastewater treatment operation, lagoon or pond running smoothly as weather warms up by avoiding a rapid release of N and P that can lead to increased odors, TSS issues and algae problems.
Test
Biological activity of various commercial microbial products vs. LT microbes.
Result
LT microbes retain 90% biological activity at temperatures as low as 4°C/39°F. Competing products able to retain up to 20% biological activity at similar temperatures.
